- Mr Buswell is expected to face trial
- He quit Parliament in 2014
Mr Buswell appeared in the Perth Magistrates Court this morning on a total of seven charges.
The former MP is alleged to have assaulted Melissa Hankinson while they were in "a family and domestic relationship" and caused her bodily harm on three occasions in 2015, 2016 and 2018.
Mr Buswell is also facing three charges of common assault relating to Ms Hankinson, which allegedly occurred on Valentine's Day in 2016 and another in July last year.
A seventh charge alleges Mr Buswell unlawfully damaged a door valued at $200 belonging to his partner.
The alleged assaults happened at Subiaco, Southern River, Vasse, and Yoongarillup near Busselton.
Mr Buswell served as opposition leader and as treasurer in the former Barnett government.
He initially resigned from the ministry in 2010 over allegations of improper use of his ministerial allowances during a relationship with Greens MP Adele Carles.
Mr Buswell was reappointed to cabinet later the same year and eventually regained the post of treasurer in 2012.
He quit cabinet once again in 2014 after crashing into several parked cars in Subiaco while driving home from a wedding.
Mr Buswell resigned from Parliament later that year.
He will face court again on July 21 for a trial allocation hearing.
