Questions from the audience
Hi bridgit, is the second wave of infections are really possible scenario. Than you for all the work your team has been doing.-Bobby
Morning, Bobby — thanks for following along.
That's the challenge governments easing lockdown restrictions are now facing — how to prevent a rebound in transmission.
Infectious diseases spread via contact between infectious and susceptible people. In the absence of any control measures, an outbreak will grow as long as the average number of people infected by each infectious person is greater than one.
During a briefing last week, Michael Ryan, the chief executive director of the World Health Organization's Health Emergencies Programme, reiterated the dangers of scaling back restrictions too soon.
Here's a bit of what he had to say:
“I think it's very logical that if you lift that pressure too quickly, the virus can jump back.”
“We don't know what's going to happen in two, three, four or five months when we may see a reemergence of the disease.”
'Morning Bridget : )Do you know how long Corona Virus lives on glass and stainless steel please?I can find almost every other surface life but not those two surfaces.-Jenny
Morning, Jenny.
Studies have shown that the COVID-19 virus can survive for up to 72 hours on plastic and stainless steel, less than 4 hours on copper and less than 24 hours on cardboard.
The most important thing to know about coronavirus on surfaces is that they can easily be cleaned with common household disinfectants that will kill the virus.

Coronavirus numbers have put Australia's growth factor back above one — should we be worried?
Australia has done an incredible job of getting our coronavirus outbreak under control.
But for the first time in more than a month, the 'growth factor' for COVID-19 cases has risen above one.
That is, we have more new cases this week than we did last week.

Sydney's CBD could look very different after coronavirus lockdown lifted
Some of Australia's corporate giants are warning Sydney's CBD will be changed forever by coronavirus.
As the Federal Government begins easing social-distancing restrictions, some businesses are navigating a safe return to the office.
But with working from home now the status quo, there are doubts once-bustling CBD workplaces will ever return to the way they were.

Tasmania records two new cases of coronavirus
They were confirmed overnight, ending the state's four-day streak of no new cases.
The two new cases are from the north and north-west, bringing the state's total to 223.
One is a woman and the other is a man, aged in their 40s and 70s.
There's now less than 50 active cases of COVID-19 in the state, but Premier Peter Gutwein says that until a vaccine is found, social distancing measures will remain in place.

'How much is a human life worth?'
As his state considers how it will slowly ease its coronavirus restrictions, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo says that the number one concern must be how many deaths it is worth to restart the economy.
At least 19,000 people have died in New York since the outbreak began, but the state's daily death rate has decreased dramatically since its peak early last month.
Governor Andrew Cuomo says that any debates about lifting lockdown restrictions ultimately boils down to the value placed on people’s lives.
"And the question comes back to, how much is a human life worth? That's the real discussion that no one is admitting openly or freely, but we should.
"To me, I say the cost of a human life, a human life is priceless, period."

Australians may not be ready to go back to normal even if coronavirus restrictions are lifted
Australians may remain hesitant to venture out of their homes or gather in large groups even if the nation's various coronavirus restrictions are eased or lifted.
A new survey of 2,225 people by Vox Pop Labs in collaboration with the ABC has found that only about 1 in 8 Australians would attend a large event even if they could, fewer than 1 in 5 would get on a plane, and only 40 per cent would go to a bar or restaurant.

'We've never experienced anything like this'
The United Kingdom has now outstripped Italy in the number of coronavirus deaths, becoming the worst-affected country in Europe.
Both countries have suffered more than 29,000 fatalities.
Britain's office of national statistics, however, puts the true toll in the UK at more 32,000.
The UK's Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab says the pandemic is unprecedented.
"We've never experienced anything like this first stage of COVID-19. In terms of the scale of the lives lost, but also the lockdown that it is required.
"And as we go forward we want to make sure that the next phase is more comfortable is more sustainable, and prevents lasting damage to jobs and livelihoods."
