Margot Robbie's Australian accent was too strong for even an Australian TV show, she revealed to Quentin Tarantino in a new interview.
The "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" actress spoke to the film's director for an interview published Sunday in Vogue Australia, describing her beginnings in the industry, which included the Australian show "Neighbours" that she eventually left to move to Los Angeles.
"About six months in I made the decision (to move) and started saving money and learning the American dialect," she said. "You’ve met me with my Australian accent now, but my Australian accent as it was then was very, very Australian.”
“A XXXX Aussie accent!” Tarantino said.
"I am a Queenslander, and my accent was so Australian that 'Neighbours' hired a dialect coach to make me sound less Australian," Robbie told him. "So that was all part of the process of moving to America. Before that the idea of being in Hollywood, I did think you had to be born into it or had to know someone in the industry.”

Now an industry veteran, Robbie described to People magazine how important it was to her to accurately represent her "Hollywood" character of Sharon Tate, the real-life actress who was tragically killed by the Manson family.
“It was immensely important for me to honor Sharon’s generous spirit,” she said. “I felt an enormous sense of responsibility. She really was such a beautiful character to play.”
“They all said how kind, loving and good-hearted she was,” she added, describing how she spoke to Tate's friends and relatives to research her role. “I was fortunate enough to step on to set with Debra Tate’s blessing, Sharon’s sister.”
