A portion of U.S. 90 will remain closed all day after a crash took down an overhead sign, according to San Antonio Police Department.

San Antonio drivers, you may want to avoid U.S. 90 as a portion of it is expected to be closed all day, according to the San Antonio Police Department. The closure encompasses the main lanes going both ways from Callaghan Road to West Military Drive.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation, the closure comes after a fatal crash where someone struck an overhead sign on Friday, November 19. Crews are on the scene to repair the damage, SAPD said.

Officials are asking drivers to find an alternate route as only the access and frontages roads will be available for travel during this time.

SAPD said a 40-year-old woman was operating a Gray Ford F150 westbound of U.S. Highway 90 when for an unknown reason drifted off the roadway onto the left-hand improved shoulder. The woman then struck a guardrail and a TxDOT highway sign shortly after, officials said.

The driver did not survive the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

No foul play is suspected. The investigation is ongoing, officials said.
