Queensland has reached the COVID-19 vaccination threshold needed to remove a requirement for masks.
Federal government data, released on Wednesday afternoon, revealed 80.1 per cent of the eligible Queensland population has received a first dose of the vaccine.
On Tuesday, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced masks will no longer be required when the state reached the 80 per cent mark.
Currently, masks must be carried at all times and worn when people can’t socially distance in Brisbane, Moreton Bay, Ipswich, Lockyer, Somerset, Logan, Redlands, Sunshine Coast, Noosa, Gold Coast and Scenic Rim.
They’re also mandatory on public transport, when arriving and leaving venues and stadiums, and at schools for students and teachers when they are not seated or teaching.
The mandate will remain in force in all airports and on planes in Queensland, in line with federal rules.
The premier has not confirmed details around the removal of the mask requirement.
The data states 68.3 per cent of eligible Queenslanders are fully vaccinated.
Acting Chief Health Officer Peter Aitken said on Tuesday mask mandates could be enforced in low-vaccination regions if there were outbreaks once the borders reopen.
