WHATCOM COUNTY, Wash. – The Nooksack River is now flooding and will continue to flood throughout the day.

The Sheriff’s Office says Everson, Sumas, Deming and Maple Falls are all isolated.

Over 30 Whatcom County roads are now closed, including Badger Road, the Hannegan south of Lynden and the Guide at Bellis Fair.

Many Whatcom County Schools have canceled classes for Monday, November 15th, including Bellingham, Ferndale and Lynden School Districts.

You can find a list of all the school and road closures here.

The Sheriff’s Office is reminding drivers not to try to drive through high water and don’t drive beyond safety and road closure signs.

If you’re caught doing so, you can face a $500 fine.

They’ve had to conduct between 50 and 70 water rescues, which is putting a massive strain on the county’s emergency resources.

Heavy rain is expected throughout the rest of the day and the Sheriff’s Office expects there to be more flooding, landslides and road closures.

You can also listen to a full interview with the Mayor of Everson and the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Deputy Director on our Podcast page.
