Indonesia has condemned what it calls Israel's unilateral decision to end the mandate of an international civilian observer mission in the occupied Palestinian territory of Hebron in the West Bank last week. "It is an obligation of Israel as the occupying power to protect Palestinian civilians in Hebron, as well as in all Palestinian territories under Israeli occupation, as mandated by international law," said the Foreign Ministry in a statement on Thursday. "[Israel's unilateral act] will further jeopardize the efforts toward peace and the realization of a two-state solution," the ministry said. The ministry, which has been vocal in support of Palestine's independence, also called on all members of the global community to refrain from any provocative acts and to respect international law and existing international agreements.
