But the Chinese calendar spans five 12-year-long cycles over 60 years, where each year is represented by one of the 12 animals.
There are a total of five cycles because the system is slightly complicated by each zodiac represented in one of the five elements – Water, Wood, Earth, Fire and Metal.
So, people born between today and the Chinese New Year 2020, will all be born under the sign of the Earth Pig.
The zodiac animals in order are the Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig.

Last year, the Chinese celebrated the Year of the Dog and will celebrate the Year of the Rat in 2020.
